For over two decades, the KLE name has stood for rugged versatility in the adventure touring world. Now, for the 2026 model year, Kawasaki is resurrecting this iconic nameplate with the all-new KLE 500 and its premium sibling, the KLE 500 SE.
Billed with the rallying cry, “Life’s a Rally – Ride It,” the new KLE 500 is designed to be the definitive mid-capacity adventure machine, perfectly bridging the gap between urban commuting and serious off-pavement exploration.
Engine and Performance: Punchy, A2-Compliant Power
At the heart of the new KLE 500 is Kawasaki’s highly-praised, liquid-cooled 451 cc parallel-twin engine, the same responsive unit found in the Ninja 500.
While Kawasaki UK has not released the official performance figures specifically for the KLE 500, the engine is known to deliver a compelling combination of strong, low-end torque and satisfying pull at higher revs. Based on its application in other models and its A2 licence compliance, you can expect power in the region of 45 hp and torque around 42.6 Nm. This provides ample, rider-friendly power that makes it as comfortable cruising the motorway as it is tackling a rocky track.
The engine also features a smooth-shifting six-speed transmission paired with an Assist & Slipper Clutch, ensuring a light lever pull and greater stability during aggressive downshifts when things get technical.
Rally-Bred Chassis and Suspension
The KLE 500 is built on a high-tensile steel trellis frame, optimised for multi-purpose use. Its purposeful rally-style design is more than just cosmetic, featuring key equipment for true adventure:
- Wheel Setup: A proper adventure combination of a large 21-inch front spoked wheel and a 17-inch spoked rear wheel, both shod in IRC GP-410 multi-purpose tyres.
- Long-Travel Suspension: Specially developed KYB cartridge-type inverted front forks offer a generous 210mm of wheel travel, matched by a New Uni-Trak rear suspension with 200mm of travel. This setup is built to soak up rough terrain while maintaining composed road manners.
- Braking: Large disc brakes (300mm front, 230mm rear) offer confident stopping power, backed by selectable ABS which can be deactivated for off-road riding, allowing you to slide the rear wheel for greater control in the dirt.
KLE 500 SE: Taking Adventure Up a Gear
For riders seeking maximum comfort and protection, the KLE 500 SE (Special Edition) model adds a host of premium, adventure-ready features to the base model:

Comfort and Convenience for the Long Haul
Kawasaki has focused heavily on rider comfort and practicality. The KX motocross-inspired ergonomics, combined with a slim chassis and adjustable screen, make riding comfortable whether you are sat down for a long day of touring or standing on the pegs for an off-road section. The 16-litre fuel tank, designed to sit high to maintain ground clearance, provides ample range for tackling new horizons.
The KLE 500 is backed by a full catalogue of genuine Kawasaki accessories, including panniers, top cases, heated grips, USB-C outlets, and a centre stand, allowing you to truly tailor the bike for any journey. An upswept Akrapovič silencer is even available for those seeking an extra edge in style and sound.
With the return of the KLE name, Kawasaki has delivered an honest, capable, and exciting mid-size adventurer that is ready for whatever your map throws at it. The KLE 500 is expected to land in the UK in March 2026—pricing is still to be confirmed.
